Sustainability is a key driver in the design approach.  Our design is close to Passivhaus standard and follows the principles of ‘Fabric First’ with high levels of insulation and air tightness resulting in a low heat load.  Thermal mass is provided through thick masonry walls and concrete floors intended to provide an even temperature gradient and high levels of thermal comfort throughout the year.  Glazing to the south elevation provides potential for solar gain complimented with shading from deep overhanging roofs to reduce summer time overheating.  Renewable technologies, rainwater harvesting and mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) are included.
