Stone is the most commonly used of all building materials and dominates most urban and rural landscapes in the south west of England. Historic England describe the benefits and properties of stone:
"It's wide range of colours, textures and other properties means that this uniquely versatile material has been used of a variety of functional and decorative purposes.
The properties of different stones derive from the process of rock formation millions of years ago, and govern both the suitability of the material for different purposes and its long-term performance. The stone buildings of England are a mirror of the country's underlying geology, since most buildings were constructed of stone sourced locally, contributing to the local distinctiveness of our towns and villages".
We are experienced in:
- Survey and analysis of stone deterioration and the cases of decay.
- Conservation proposals including structural repair, repointing, consolidation, repairs, lime washing, cleaning along with care and maintenance.
